Peggy Guggenheim was born on August 26, 1898 in New York City she was an American art collector and a daughter of Benjamin Guggenheim, who went down with the Titanic in 1912 .At the age of 21 in 1919 she got inherited a small fortune of 2.5 million dollars. This would be roughly 25 million in today's money. what she did with the money? well she move to live in paris and friend with the artist friend like Marcel Duchamp and Man Ray (my favorite artist by the way) who photographed her in picture above wearing Pioret. In 1938, she opened a gallery for modern art in London featuring Jean Cocteau and began to collect works of art. in 1939 she help her uncle, Solomon R. Guggenheim open the art musume in New York. she married to German painter Max Ernst in 1941.

Following World War II and her 1946 divorce from Max Ernst she closed The Art of This Century Gallery in 1947, and returned to Europe; deciding to live in Venice, Italy. here pictured with her dogs.

she pass away on December 23, 1979. The Peggy Guggenheim Collection is one of the most important museums in Italy for European and American art of the first half of the 20th century. Pieces in her collection embrace Cubism, Surrealism and Abstract Expressionism.
